Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero, an American actress and singer is a former model. She was the main female performer in Apollonia 6 and co-starred in Prince's film Purple Rain from 1984. Apollonia, a singer/actress christened by Prince in 1984, became one of many female artists of the 1980s that benefited from Prince. Born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her work began as a model and actress towards the end of the 1970s with a role on the TV show CHiPS. In 1984, the actress was chosen to play the lead actress in Prince's Purple Rain. (During this time period, she also changed her name.) Her replacement was Vanity as a member of the female trio Vanity 6 which starred in the film alongside Apollonia 6 under their name. She made more of an impression on the charts when she was Prince's partner on Take Me with You, a duet from the soundtrack. Kotero's association with Prince came to an end when the duo were at odds over her career direction. Apollonia 6, the group that she belonged to was ended up splitting. Kotero was in a few minor films during the time and was reportedly not allowed to be involved in her role in the Purple Rain sequel Under the Cherry Moon. In 1985-1986 she was offered a role on the drama series for evenings Falcon Crest. Apollonia's debut album debuted in 1988. But the R&B/dance songs were not a huge hit by the public who purchased music. They soon ceased to exist. The actress continued acting (if somewhat obscure) during the subsequent decade. Small TV appearances, minor films, and exercise videos kept her busy. Apollonia made a record in English and Spanish named Stay With Me in 1997. When she returned to school, she received a bachelor's degree in filmmaking. She also established her own business. Apollonia, Kotero is known for wearing many hats.
